Paraguay is a country located in the heart of South America, with a population of approximately 6.700.000 inhabitants. In the last decade, the Paraguayan economy had an average growth of 5%, although in the year 2015 it was slightly slowed down by the drop of prices of commodities worldwide. However, Paraguay presents itself as an economically stable and open country to the world.
In regards to the social area, poverty and inequality remain as an outstanding debt. Given this situation, and in accordance with the National Development Plan (2014-2030), JICA has focused its assistance in two priority areas of cooperation: (1) "Reducing Disparities" with the Assistance for the self-reliance of small-scale farmers and Improvement of Public Health Programs; (2) "Sustainable Economic Development" with Improvement of Water and Sanitation, and Improvement of Economic Infrastructure Programs.
