As part of the efforts to improve public transportation management capacity of the Secretariat for Public Transport (SfPT) as a counterpart, the project plans and implements a total of four third-country training programs in European countries.
The second training was held in Italy from June 13 to 17, following the training in the Netherlands. Participants attended lectures by municipal public transportation authorities and operators of public transportation services in Rome, Florence, and Naples, and then visited actual operation sites.
In Belgrade, air pollution caused by the increase in the number of private cars and unpaid rides of public transportation are the major issues. The participants gained various hints about innovations regarding payment methods, boarding and alighting methods, and ticket gates in the three Italian cities that have been suffering from similar problems, as well as about reexamination and planning for overall mobility, including private transportation, throughout the entire city.
We will continue discussions with several counterparts to develop a plan for improving public transportation, taking into account the hints obtained from the training.
