A workshop on "Mobility Management and School Education" was held in Belgrade under the Serbian-Japanese university exchange.

We implemented "Mobility Management (MM)" through traffic & transport education activities as part of the efforts to contribute to the improvement of planning capacity to secure fare collection of the Secretariat for Public Transport (SfPT). Specifically, we provided classes for elementary school students using the game of Traffic Sugoroku, making an opportunity to learn the difference between public transportation and private vehicles and the importance of using public transportation. Through these activities, the pupils were able to understand that excessive use of private vehicles causes traffic congestion and environmental problems, and by using the concept of "social dilemma", they can understand the reasons why the problems are not improved. To solve social dilemmas in the future, it is expected that people understand the importance of using public transportation versus using private vehicles, depending on the situation.

Since February 2023, we have so far conducted traffic & transport education activities in four elementary schools in Belgrade, together with lecturers from the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering of the University of Belgrade (FTTE) to deepen the understanding of MM among the concerned parties. This time, a workshop was held on May 5 at FTTE to (1) share the results of local traffic and transport education activity initiatives, (2) introduce the concept of MM and school education initiatives in Japan, and (3) exchange opinions between academic experts from both countries.

From the Japanese side, one of the leading experts in MM education, Professor Ayako Taniguchi of the Department of Policy and Planning Sciences, University of Tsukuba, was invited to join lecturers from the FTTE and staff from SfPT, for a broad exchange of views. The FTTE's presentation reported on the results of traffic & transport education activities at elementary schools to date, while Professor Taniguchi's presentation introduced specific examples of MM activities in Japan, alongside points to keep in mind and innovations in their implementation, and methods for measuring their effectiveness. These contents were received as very useful for considering future efforts in Belgrade.

We will continue to actively share knowledge and experiences gained through exchanges with academic institutions.
