The 40th Anniversary of Japan-Viet Nam Diplomatic Relationship cerebrated in DB

It has been 40 years since Japan and Viet Nam established diplomatic relations on 21 September 1973. Celebrating this historical year, various events have been taking place throughout Viet Nam.

In Dien Bien Province, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), a counterpart agency of the three JICA technical cooperation projects including SUSFROM-NOW, co-hosted the ceremony for the 40th anniversary of Japan-Viet Nam diplomatic relations on 9 September. All Japanese experts and local staff of the three JICA projects and a representative from JICA Viet Nam Office attended the ceremony. Three companies, namely Sumitomo Forestry Co., Ltd., Askul Corporation, and Yanmar Co., Ltd., also co-hosted the ceremony as they have been supporting forest conservation and livelihoods development activities under the framework of SUSFORM-NOW. The representatives of these three companies also attended the ceremony.

In the morning, prior to the main event, a commemorative tree planting ceremony was organized in Muong Phang Commune with the participation of these three Japanese companies. The participants planted about 20 seedlings of cherry and ban trees (see Note) in front of the Long Luong Lake Management Board Office.

In the afternoon, the main ceremony was held at the DARD meeting hall. The ceremony was started with a speech from Mr. Pham Duc Hien, the DARD director, followed by ones from the representatives from JICA Viet Nam Office and the Japanese companies. The ceremony ended with songs and dances by both Vietnamese and Japanese participants.

All the participants wished that the planted cherry and ban flowers would bloom as the relationship between Japan and Viet Nam deepens further in the future.

Note : Cherry blossom is one of the symbolic flowers in Japan while ban flower is the one in Dien Bien Province.
