The PFES-REDD+ Integration Workshop was successfully organized in DB

On 14 October, SUSFORM-NOW organized the PFES*-REDD+ Integration Workshop at the Muong Thanh Hotel in Dien Bien Phu City in order to explore the possible ways to integrate PFES and REDD+ in Dien Bien Province. Relevant governmental officials from both provincial and national levels and the JICA forestry program advisor participated in the workshop.

The workshop was chaired by Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ky, the vice director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Dien Bien Province. The first presentation was provided by Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Ha, the director of the Dien Bien Forest Protection and Development Fund (FPDF), on the current progress and challenges of work on PFES in Dien Bien Province. It was followed by Dr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, the director of the Wetland Research Institute with his presentation on "group approach in PFES implementation," providing their experiences in Quang Nam Province. Mr. Pham Hong Luong, the deputy director of the Department of Planning and Finance, Viet Nam Administration of Forestry (VNFOREST), and Viet Nam Forest Protection and Development Fund (VNFF), explained the necessity of PFES and REDD+ integration while Mr. Baku Takahashi, the chief advisor of SUSFORM-NOW, gave a proposal for pilot PFES-REDD+ integration in Muong Phang and Muong Muon Communes under the framework of the project. The last presentation was made by Ms. Lauren Sorkin from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on capacity development for PFES, sharing its experience in Quang Nam Province. The workshop participants actively exchanged their opinions during the discussion sessions.

As the first attempt in the country to integrate PFES and REDD+ at provincial level, SUSFORM-NOW will continue to explore effective approaches to their integration, which could be also applicable to other provinces.
