Oyster mushroom cultivation started in MP Commune

From January to February in 2014, series of oyster mushroom trainings were held in the villages in Muong Phang (MP) Commune, and after the training, mushroom cultivation started in each household of the training participant.

Prior to the training, SUSFORM-NOW organized a study tour to Phieng Ban village, one of the initial pilot sites where project supported mushroom cultivation has been successful. It should be a good opportunity for MP villagers to be able to grasp images of mushroom cultivation.

After the study tour, total of five-day training course were implemented in the villages in MP for those who raised hands for participating mushroom cultivation activity. The training course was mixture of lecture and practical trainings, and the participants seemed quite enthusiastic about the mushroom cultivation as well as enjoying learning new skills even though some of the processes require lots of hard labors.

After completion of the trainings, the project supported the villagers with mushroom cultivation materials in order for them to start mushroom cultivation at their own house. In this stage, extensionists visited one by one household to check and provide advices on the method of cultivation.

Since mushroom cultivation is quite sensitive – poor management will directly affect the growth of mushroom seeds – monitoring by the extensionist plays important role for the success of mushroom cultivation in MP commune.

SUSFORM-NOW will also continue to support MP's mushroom cultivation activity, with a view to make it one of the measure income sources in the villages.
