Counterpart Training in Japan "Regional Health Training"

For two weeks from 4th to 17th October, 12 people of the Project counterparts from Medical Service Administration of Ministry of Health, provincial hospitals and Department of health of 6 target provinces (Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai and Yen Bai) were dispatched to Japan and participated in the course titled "Regional Health Training".

In the first week of training, they learned about general Japanese health issues including national medical service system, public insurance, regional health service plan, human resource development and emergency patient referral among the medical facilities in the urban areas.

In the second week, participants moved to Shimane prefecture. They visited the prefectutal office, Shimane Prefectutral Central Hospital, Municipal office of Unnan city, Unnan City Hospital and one private hospital. At Shimane prefecture, they studied regional health service, including cooperation among the medical facilities in the region through lectures and observation. On the final day, all trainees had a session of internal discussion and opinion exchange on how to apply output of the training into practices at their own organizations and provinces.

After this training, the trainees are expected to work for improvement of patient referral system and capacity development of human resources with the aim to better medical service in their province in specific, and in northwest region of Vietnam in general.
