SPI-NAMA Project has jointly organized the first MONRE-TGO-JICA Joint Seminar entitled Effective mainstreaming of climate change policies into practice in Hanoi on 30th October 2018. This Joint Seminar has served as the first session of the regional dialogue series embarked in conjunction with the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) between MONRE and Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) in August 2017. This MoC aims to conduct capacity building activities on climate change, share concrete experiences and lessons to respond to climate change at national level and enhance technical readiness for its implementation. SPI-NAMA has supported the implementation of the joint seminar in collaborating with MONRE and TGO, providing valuable opportunity for relevant stakeholders in Vietnam to learn latest progress on climate change policy and relevant lessons in each country.

At the first seminar, Vietnam's and Thailand's foremost practitioners and experts leading on climate change policy development have made presentations to the Vietnamese governmental officials and experts, followed by the Q&A and discussion session. The seminar started with introduction to the bilateral cooperation, followed by the presentations sharing concrete experiences for climate change policy development in both countries and in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). At the presentations of MONRE and HCMC/DONRE, the technical supports and capacity building at national and local government level conducted by SPI-NAMA were introduced by the speakers to broader audiences, while the MONRE and DONRE's positive efforts were also widely known by the participants. It was shared by participants that enhancing coordination with relevant stakeholders including donors in line with national climate goals and targets as well as involvement of private sector are key for further climate policy development and implementation. This seminar served the participants from Vietnam and Thailand as part of South-South Cooperation, giving the meaningful opportunity to overview the development of climate change policies in each country and share the challenges and lessons for deeper discussions.
