Annual meeting in 2018 for update progress and activity planning for 2019

On December 12, under the chairpersonship of Mr. Son who is the Vice Director of the Management Board for Forestry Projects (MBFPs) under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, a meeting was held in Da Lạt City, Lam Dong Province to discuss the activity progress, implementation challenges and the annual plan for 2019.

Since our project includes 4 Components implemented in 5 provinces, the meeting is aimed to facilitate knowledge sharing between those engaged in project implementation. It was attended by Provincial coordinators(PCs) and the Provincial Project Management Units (PPMUs) from 4 Northwest provinces (Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau) where activities of the Component 2 are implemented as well as Central Project Management Unit (CPMU), Lam Dong province where Component 3 is delivered and Japanese experts.

At first, Mr. Thang, Vice Director of the CPMU, presented the progress of activities in 2018 and activity plan for 2019. Each PC and PPMU further shared detailed information about the progress, focusing on existing problems in their provinces.

Mr. Huong, General Director of Bidoup Nuiba National Park and Director of Lam dong PPMU, stressed the importance of replication of successful pilot models such as the production of Shiitake mushroom in Lam Dong.

Mr. Miyazono, Chief Technical Advisor of SNRM Project, responded to problems and requests for support raised by participants and emphasized that, considering the remaining term of the project, the upcoming year of 2019 would be greatly important for both Japanese and Vietnamese sides and to fulfill key remaining targets of the project would be needed.

On the same day, a field trip was organized for participants to visit a local household who cultivates Shitake mushroom with project support. The mushroom can be sold for good price, partly to a popular Italian Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, which contributes to the farmer's livelihood improvement. Participants also visited the visitor center of Bidoup Nuiba National Park, where its staff provided a brief introduction on the precious and abundant nature of the park with natural and artificial exhibits.

One of the significant goal of the project is to reflect achievements and lessons learned from the field implementation in the policymaking process at the central level. SNRM Project will manage to further strengthen such a linkage by promoting close communication and knowledge sharing between relevant stakeholders at both central and provincial levels.
