Dr. Kutsuna, short-term expert conducted the lectures on AMS

Dr. Satoshi Kutsuna from the Disease Control and Prevention Center, National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), visited Cho Ray Hospital for the second time as a short-term expert of JICA from December 18 to 26, 2017.

Following his first visit in June 2017, he carried out meetings and gave technical advice mainly on the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) to the counterparts in Cho Ray Hospital.

He gave a lecture to 100 doctors and nurses who were members of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Committee in Cho Ray Hospital about "Infection Disease Consultation and the Role of Antimicrobial Stewardship Team" in the Antimicrobial Stewardship Seminar held on December 20. Dr. Kutsuna introduced the situation of Antimicrobial Stewardship in Japan and suggested the indicator to be monitored (the quantity of antimicrobial usage notification, the quotient of specimen submission before using Carbapenem, etc.), the case to be intervened (the case of using antimicrobial that requires permission, the case of administering Carbapenem in the long term, etc.) and the appropriate feedback (de-escalation, cessation of antimicrobial, etc.).

He also conducted a lecture on the prevention of surgical site infection (SSI) for the doctors and nurses in the Orthopedics Department on December 22. He emphasized the importance of sufficient cleansing of the wounded part and the timely administration of antimicrobial in the perioperative period during the discussion session after the lecture.
