First Career Development Plan Review

The first Career Development Plan (CDP) review was conducted between May and July 2020.

*A CDP is a training plan that briefly describes targeted AIS employees' roles and duties in security work. CDP is based on the competencies required for the job and the individual's preferences. It is developed through individual interviews with each staff member and is reviewed every six months to check the extent of their ability to improve.

The purpose was to review the training conducted in accordance with the training plan created between September and December last year and to evaluate the results and plan the next training. A questionnaire was distributed to each of the participants beforehand. Then their supervisors and each participant were interviewed for 30 minutes to one hour. Including the newly trained participants, there were close to 90 people, and it took us about two months to interview them.

*The goal of the project is to enhance capacity of AIS for cybersecurity, and the followings have been set as outputs.

  1. Capacity of security quality management is enhanced.
  2. Capacity of reactive service is enhanced.
  3. Capacity of proactive service is enhanced.

More than 70 people participated in the training, and about half of them scored well on the post-training online learning system, which allowed them to take the international certification exams (CompTIA Security+, CEH, CCNA Security, ECSS, etc.). As of now, the pass rate is 75%. Only those who have worked hard at online learning can take the exam, which seems to be a good motivation to keep learning.

The quantitative evaluation will measure short-term outcomes by comparing the pre-post tests of the training and the pre-test to the online learning score. Also, the review results are evaluated qualitatively and used as an indicator of project achievement. Many trainees and supervisors reported that the quality and efficiency of their day-to-day work improved before and after the training. There were not many specific stories about how the training helped, but we will continue to look for ways to evaluate the effectiveness of the training in daily operations and whether or not it is linked to the full role of security, rather than just a score.

Our next review is scheduled for January 2021, and we are on track to exceed 100 people.

At the beginning of the project, the number of participants was 40, but the number has more than doubled as AIS's scale has expanded. The project will continue to train as many staff as possible to improve AIS's capacity.
