Training on production techniques and management of tree planting materials in Tuyen Quang was held.

On 14 July 2022, a training, which is a part of the sustainable forest management plan, was held in Tuyen Quang (TQ) Province. In TQ, the Project supports Tan Trao Special-Use Forest Management Board (Tan Trao Board). The special-use forest is the protected forest where valuable plants and animals live, such as National Parks and Nature Reserves, or which has rare sceneries. The Board, however, does not have enough budget, and it has been difficult for them to properly protect and manage the forest. The Board planned to produce and sell planting materials and thus, requested the Project organize training on production techniques and management.

Fifteen participants attended the training from the Tan Trao Board, and they had lectures in the morning and field visits in the afternoon. The training covered the topics such as National Standards of forest tree cultivar and forest tree nursery, regulations on management of forest planting materials, techniques for the production of forest planting materials for the common species (e.g., Acacia mangium, Acacia hybrid), disease prevention and control, and waste management at nurseries.

The representative of the Board, Mr. Son, who also attended the training, said, "The training course was really meaningful, and it contributes to capacity building of the officials of the Sub Forest Protection Department and Tan Trao Board. The officials trained today will apply this technique to produce high-quality tree planting materials for forest plantation activities and tell it to other forest owners. As a result, the Board will be able to create supplemental income from the nursery, and then, it will contribute partially to forest protection of the Board."

The SNRM2 Project will support Tan Trao Board in developing the nursery. Seeds will be sown in October, and we will report it on Project News.
