Support to the Training Course on the National Forest Certification Scheme Provided

The Policy Support Component of the SNRM2 Project supports the development and the review of policies and plans as well as the capacity building related to sustainable forest management and biodiversity conservation. As a part of these efforts, the project organized the training course on the national forest certification scheme from 10 to 12 August 2022.

Forest certification is an important tool in ensuring that the forest products are coming from sustainable sources. In order to promote the forest certification in the country, the Prime Minister approved the project on sustainable forest management planning and forest certification for 2018-2030 (Decision No. 1288/QD-TTg) in 2018 and established the Vietnam Forest Certification Office (VFCO (Vietnamese) (external link)).

The training this time was organized in order to enhance the understanding on and build the capacity in the Vietnam Forest Certification Scheme (VFCS/PEFC). This three-day training course welcomed 32 trainees from four provinces and covered the following subjects:

  1. VFCS/PEFC Overview
  2. VFCS/PEFC Standards
  3. Implementation of Sustainable Forest Management under VFCS
  4. Field Practical Session (Assessment of the Forest Management Situation as against the VFCS/PEFC Standards and Identification of Issues)

The trainees are expected to promote further the forest certification under the VFCS/PEFC in their respective provinces upon return.
