Training on strengthening capacity to update forest changes on FRMS 4.0 system

The SNRM2 Project supports the Forest Protection Department (FPD) to upgrade and improve the database system of forest changes and functions of the Forest Resources Monitoring System (FRMS) Desktop 4.0 software.

Up to now, the improvement of the FRMS system has been basically completed. The Project has organized, in cooperation with the FPD and FAO, two training courses to enhance the capacity of the forest protection staff to monitor forest changes.

The purpose of the training is to improve the capacity of the FPD staff to update forest changes in the FRMS 4.0 system. This enables them to share forest change data from central to local levels smoothly on the improved FRMS system.

The first training was held from 24 to 25 May in Lao Cai City, Lao Cai Province. About 70 participants from 30 Northern Provincial FPDs and Regional FPDs I and II (2 to 3 participants from each province) participated in the training.

The second training was held from 15 to 16 June in Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province. About 75 participants from 30 Sub-FPDs in the Southern and central highland provinces, Regional FPD III and IV (2 to 3 participants from each province) participated in the training.

These trainees are expected to be the key staff for the coming years who promote forest monitoring based on FRMS 4.0 in their respective provinces, to instruct forest rangers in their districts on how to use FRMS 4.0 to update forest changes and to ensure the accuracy and quality of forest monitoring in Viet Nam.
