Sector-specific private company technical training (food and beverage sector) toward GHG emissions calculation and reduction plan formulation

Following the cement sector training conducted in December 2022, the SPI-NDC project conducted a second-round of training, inviting private companies from the food and beverage sector, in Ho Chi Minh City on March 15, 2023.

This training was designed in response to the Government Decree No. 06/2022/NĐ-CP on GHG Emission Reduction and Ozone Protection (hereinafter referred to as Decree No. 6) promulgated under the revised Environmental Protection Law, which came into effect in 2021. According to this Decree, GHG emissions calculation reports are required for private business facilities exceeding a certain amount of GHG emissions. Hence, this training included practical hands-on exercises on how to calculate GHG emissions in the food and beverage sector.

It was conducted with onsite and online participation, having over 200 participants (58 onsite and 168 online), including those from private companies. Four sessions were organized, after the opening remarks by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE)Department of Climate Change (DCC), Deputy Director Mr. Quang and SPI-NDC project chief advisor Mr. Fukuda.

Below are the content and presenters for each of the four sessions.

Session 1: Law on Climate Change

This training conducted group discussions involving all participants in the exercise and a Q&A session between the government and private companies. As a result of active discussions amongst participants, it can be said that the understanding of the training content was strengthened. There were many requests for more training to be continued in the future. The SPI-DNC project Chief Advisor, Mr. Fukuda, stated that he was very happy to see such a high interest and motivation of companies and that he would like to consider future training plans based on feedbacks from participants. In the future, it is expected that the food and beverage sector's efforts to address climate change will be further accelerated.
