Summary

In October 2017, the Team 1 of Transportation and Information and Communication Group, JICA's Infrastructure and Peacebuilding Department, established "Road Asset Management Platform", which is mechanism for JICA to sustain Road Asset Management activities of developing countries effectively and efficiently.

As one of the activities of this Platform, JICA is working on a long-term training program for obtaining degrees at Japanese universities. By deepening the understanding of Japanese Road Asset Management and developing human resources, participants can play an active role in their home countries.

In JFY 2018, JICA has started this long-term training program, and total nine participants (Egypt、Laos, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Philippines, Mongolia: 6 countries) have already enrolled in seven universities (Kanazawa University, Kanazawa Institute of Technology, Gifu University, University of Tokyo, Nagasaki University, Hokkaido University, University of the Ryukyu) so far. JICA plans to continue this program for the future.

This time, JICA organized special program for long-term trainees during the summer vacation of universities for deepening their understanding of Road Asset Management. Participants made comments such as "I would like to participate in the program next fiscal year to gain more knowledge about Road Asset Management" and "I wanted to implement new technology in my country after observing the demonstration using Japanese technology". The special program was highly evaluated by participants. JICA plans to implement this program next year as well.
