Introduction to the International Brain
Circulation Platform in the Space Sector

JICA has concluded a strategic partnership agreement with JAXA to enhance capacity development and establish a network of human resources and organizations for the utilization of space technologies. This collaboration - known as the JICA-JAXA Network for Utilization of Space Technology (JJ-NeST) - has been instrumental in strengthening ties between space agencies, universities, and private companies in Japan and ASEAN countries.

Beginning in FY2025, JICA is expanding this initiative into the International Brain Circulation Platform for Space, which will expand JJ-NeST’s scope. This new platform is designed to develop core human resources in satellite development and satellite data utilization, as well as field scientists in countries beyond ASEAN. To support broader partnerships with Japanese space-related companies, the platform includes initiatives such as site visits to companies, networking activities, and internship opportunities. It also promotes two-way brain circulation by enabling Japanese researchers to gain field experience in developing countries, thereby fostering mutual understanding and practical application of space technology. In addition, the platform facilitates collaboration between developing countries and Japanese local governments through site visits to locally implemented space projects.
