JICA President Tanaka Akihiko met with President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov in Tokyo on November 20.

At the opening, President Zhaparov expressed his pleasure to be meeting again with President Tanaka after an interval of two months and his gratitude for JICA’s contributions to the Kyrgyz Republic. With Japan being an important partner in the Pacific region for the Kyrgyz Republic, President Zhaparov also spoke about his sincere desire to further develop the countries’ bilateral relationship in the future.

President Tanaka then conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received on his visit to the Kyrgyz Republic in September this year, and for the understanding and support of the president and the Kyrgyz people for JICA’s initiatives. He also stated that this was a historic visit that will further deepen the bilateral relationship between the Kyrgyz Republic and Japan, which he is certain will develop to an even higher level.

The two also exchanged views on the potential for further cooperation in the field of human resources, such as “The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS),” a program for accepting young government officials in graduate schools of Japanese universities in Japan, and in the field of hydro-electric power generation in the Kyrgyz Republic, with its wealth of water resources.
