Announcement of the “JICA Sustainability Policy”

2023.11.17

On October 30, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announced the “JICA Sustainability Policy.”

In recent years, the achievement of the SDGs and responses to sustainability-related issues such as climate change, the conservation of nature and resources, and the protection of human rights are becoming a growing concern internationally, and efforts to address these issues are being intensified. Having established the Office for Sustainability Management in April 2023, JICA aims to become a more trusted presence among developing countries, partners, and others, and to expand the project impacts by promoting sustainability within the projects as well as within its own organization.

This policy outlines JICA’s mid- to long-term targets and the direction of initiatives related to sustainability management, such as its aim of achieving carbon neutrality for the organization by 2030 and implementing all new projects in a manner aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Based on this policy, JICA will continue to work toward the realization of a sustainable world.
