On December 20, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Republic of Turkey in Ankara to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 20,000 million yen for the Post-earthquake Support Project for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The earthquake that struck southeastern Turkey in February 2023 impacted micro-, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the region significantly, resulting in deaths of workers, evacuation to other areas, damage to factories and other buildings and equipment, and disruption of supply chains, among other outcomes.

Since MSMEs are the pillars of the country's economy, this project will provide liquidity support to such affected enterprises so that they can resume and maintain operations and employment. The project will thereby contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goals 8 (Decent work and economic growth) and 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure).
