On April 25, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a loan agreement with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye in the capital, Ankara, to provide a Japanese ODA loan of up to 60,000 million yen for the Emergency Earthquake Disaster Reconstruction Project.

The earthquake that struck southeastern Türkiye in February 2023 caused catastrophic damage to basic infrastructure such as water and sewage systems and housing in the affected areas, as well as challenges in terms of access to medical services due to ambulances breaking down and-ambulance stations collapsing.

In doing so, it aims to stabilize the lives of local residents and contribute to sustainable social and economic growth in the affected areas, thereby also contributing to the achievement of SDGs Goals 3 (Good health and well-being), 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure), and 11 (Sustainable cities and communities).
