Japan and Türkiye have experienced a lot of earthquakes. Both countries have been helping each other whenever a great earthquake occurs. For example, after the Grate Easte Japan Earthquake in March 2011, Türkiye sent rescue teams and relief supplies to Japan. On the other hand, after the Southeastern Türkiye Earthquake in February 2023, Japan provided emergency assistance including sending Japan Disaster Relief Team (JDR).
The Project promotes the rebuilding and seismic retrofitting on vulnerable private buildings, through implementation of a seismic risk evaluation method for assessing building vulnerability by municipalities in Türkiye. Collaborating on this shared earthquake challenge promotes both countries more friendship. The project also helps Japanese screening methods and seismic retrofitting construction methods in Türkiye.
