Responsibilities
As a research assistant, you will be responsible for performing the following services under the research project, "Journeys for Human Security in Africa" and other new research projects currently in preparation.
1. Assisting researchers with tasks related to the implementation of research (including research data collection, ethics review coordination, extensive literature reviews, and support preparing deliverables).
2. Assisting with the editing of research outputs such as research papers, books, working papers, and policy notes.
3. Supporting the organization of seminars to disseminate research findings and assisting in the creation of visual materials needed for dissemination via flyers, booklets, research reports, web articles, SNS, etc.
4. Taking notes during interviews and meetings and drafting minutes (as needed).
5. Coordination and support for research operations related to international conferences, workshops and meetings.
6. Assisting communication, coordination, arrangement of business trip and invitation to Japan with internal and external research collaborators and resource persons of the research projects.
7. Supporting related tasks for this and other research projects as needed (including arranging dissemination activities).
Remuneration and Conditions
Contract type:Commission(In principle, 3 days in a week)
Contract Period:April 1, 2026~March 31, 2027(tentative)
Remuneration: from \100,000 to \200,000 per month(This amount is calculated by multiplying the minimum daily rate by the number of contracted service days. Actual remuneration is set depending on experience and qualifications, in accordance with the OGATA research institute’s guidelines.)
Transportation expenses:To be paid.
Social insurance:None
As this is a commissioned contract, no specific performing hours are set (JICA Ogata Research Institute's standard working hours are weekdays from 9:30 to 17:45 [including a 45-minute break]). The specific number of performing days, days of the week, and hours will be determined in consultation with the research team.
Location
Performances may be conducted either at JICA Ogata Research Institute or remotely. However, depending on security and the characteristic of the services, the performance may need to be carried out at the JICA Ogata Research Institute.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
1. Master's degree (or equivalent, or soon to be) in the above research fields
2. Has relevant background in one of the following fields
- International Relations, Development Studies, Regional/Area Studies, Political Science, Law, Public Administration
3. English language skills sufficient for conducting literature review, meeting participation and note taking (TOEIC score of 800 or above, TOEFL (PBT) score of 574 or above, TOEFL (CBT) score of 230 or above, TOEFL (iBT) score of 89 or above, or equivalent).
4. Possess sufficient skill in data analysis by STATA.
5. While this position is open to all nationalities, applicants of foreign nationalities are required to have appropriate visa/permission to work in Japan.

Note
・Research members confirm schedules and share tasks during meetings, freely exchanges opinions. How many days per week you perform and whether you work remotely will be determined based on the progress of the research.
・Business-level English proficiency is essential for the tasks in this position. While communication within the institute is primarily conducted in Japanese, communication within research teams is conducted in English, and research-related data and materials are also primarily in English.
・Additionally, tasks involving document preparation and correspondence in Japanese are anticipated, so business-level Japanese proficiency is also desirable.
・Beyond research activities, we seek someone with agile responsiveness and strong teamwork skills to broadly support tasks like coordinating research projects. We also welcome re-applications from previous candidates.
