[Call for Applications] Call for Research Proposals for the “Development Research Network”

The JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute) has launched a call for research proposals under the “Development Research Network .” Development Research Network is a research project that seeks to deepen understanding of Asia’s development experiences through continuous dialogue and collaborative research between researchers and practitioners of both Japan and Thailand, and to explore future directions for development cooperation based on these insights. The project supports the research activities and dissemination of findings by early-career researchers. In the longer term, it aims to expand the research and practitioner network across the ASEAN region, thereby contributing to Asia-led knowledge co-creation and fostering new discussions on development cooperation.

This call for research proposals aims to generate and disseminate knowledge based on Asia’s development experiences through the establishment of an international network of researchers centered on Japan and Thailand, while also promoting the research activities of the next generation of young researchers.

We encourage researchers, particularly young researchers and international collaborative research teams, to actively submit applications.

• Research on Medium- to Long-Term Challenges Shared by Both Thailand and Japan
• Research on Shared and Transboundary Challenges in ASEAN and the Greater Mekong Subregion
• Research Contributing to the Conceptualization and Theorization of Development Knowledge Derived from Asian Experiences
• Research on Development Cooperation Systems, Institutions, and Capacity Development
• Research on Practices and Challenges of Human Security

The following support will be provided to selected researchers to assist them in compiling their research findings and disseminating them in Japan and overseas. Please refer to the Call for Proposals for details.

(1) Financial Support
• Honoraria for papers published in JICA Ogata Research Institute publications
• Support for English-language editing costs
• Support for open-access publication fees in peer-reviewed international academic journals
• Support for travel, accommodation, and other expenses required to participate in JICA-hosted research conferences and similar events

(2) Research Activity Support
• Support for building networks with researchers and development practitioners, primarily in Japan and Thailand
• Coordination with relevant departments regarding field visits to JICA project sites (if necessary)
• Advice and mentoring by JICA Ogata Research Institute researchers on research plans, analytical methods, paper writing, dissemination of research findings, and related matters (if necessary)
