Emerging countries are now important actors more than ever in the context of development cooperation. Therefore, sharing knowledge and experiences on development cooperation with emerging countries is significant for development actors.

One notable example of successful and strategic engagement for development cooperation with emerging countries is the Managing Global Governance (MGG) that has been implemented by the German government—Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and German Development Institute (DIE).

The MGG is a 3 ½ month training scheme for young professionals from emerging countries (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and South Africa) and Europe. Networking with those who have participated in the MGG has also functioned as a platform of outreach of Germany to the emerging countries.

The purpose of this seminar is to share invaluable lessons of the MGG from two viewpoints: namely, Germany (DIE) as an organizer of the MGG and China as the recipient/emerging country.
