Yasuyuki Sawada Wins Enjoji Jiro Memorial Prize

JICA-RI Visiting Fellow and The University of Tokyo Associate Professor Yasuyuki Sawada has been awarded the 2nd Enjoji Jiro Memorial Prize by the Japan Center for Economic Research. The prize recognizes young and mid-level economists under 45 years of age who have made achievements in the field of economic theory, and have a promising future.

Sawada has, for the field of development economics, raised and addressed many issues in poverty in developing countries and ODA through studies using micro-econometric techniques. Presently, he is leading two research projects at JICA-RI entitled “Application of Improved Impact Analysis Methods to JICA Operations” and “Effects of Irrigation on Poverty Reduction: The Case of Sri Lanka.”

Sawada and fellow prize recipient, Professor Yuji Genda of The University of Tokyo, Institute of Social Science, gave commemorative lectures at the Nikkei, Inc. headquarters in Tokyo on December 7.
