Introduction to Analytical Methods Refined through Research on Climate Change

2010.09.02

The international workshop "Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Urban Development Planning for Asian Coastal Cities," organized by the climate change research network "Asian Pacific Network on Climate Change" and "the East-West Center of the US," was held in Nakorn Pathom, Thailand. At a session on analytical methods on August 24, Megumi Muto, Research Fellow, presented her research findings from a case study on Metro Manila which is one component of the "Impacts of Climate Change upon Asian Coastal Areas" project.

In attendance at the session were many government officials and researchers--the future opinion leaders of adaptation planning for urban areas of Asia. Presenting here marked a meaningful opportunity to introduce the analytical methods fine-tuned from her research activities.

In the discussions for the post-Kyoto Protocol framework on climate change, adaptation issues have been gaining great attention worldwide. JICA has been contributing to these issues through its various activities. Likewise for JICA-RI, Muto who represents a cooperative research project with JICA-RI, the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, has published the research results of "Impacts of Climate Change upon Asian Coastal Areas: The Case of Metro Manila."
