JICA-RI Discussed Aid to Africa with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

On October 24, JICA-RI organized a meeting to exchange opinions on Japan’s and China’s support for Africa with Mr. Zhang Hongming, Deputy Director of the Institute of West-Asian and African Studies (IWAAS) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Mr. Zhang Yongpeng, associate researcher of IWAAS, in Tokyo. The participants from JICA-RI included Deputy Director Naohiro Kitano, together with concerned personnel from the Africa Department and the East and Central Asia and the Caucasus Department of JICA.

It was a timely moment for researchers from both countries to meet since China held the Fifth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in Beijing this July, while Japan will convene TICAD V (Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development) in June 2013.

The JICA Research Institute would like to continuously facilitate research exchange with those research institutes in China and other emerging countries.
