2024.09.04

JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute) regularly publishes its flagship report series, Human Security Today . This report series aims to explore the relevance of human security in today’s changing world.

Following the Japanese version published in March 2024, the JICA Ogata Research Institute published the English version of Human Security Today No.2 in September 2024. Its theme is “Human Security, Politics and Society under Compounded Crises,” reflecting the growing uncertainty we face.

The second report contains articles, essays, and a dialogue related to cascading and compounded crises, such as inflation and debt, nutritional challenges, natural disasters that coincide with conflict situations, and global governance issues. The report also includes articles about human security in the African context and the nexus of gender-based violence (GBV). Furthermore, the report introduces research activities of six research clusters at the JICA Ogata Research Institute from a human security perspective.

An overview of the second issue is also available alongside the full report. In addition to highlighting the key points of the report, this overview provides basic information on the concept of human security in an appendix.
