Makimoto Saeda , Principal Research Fellow at the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute), participated as a commissioner in the development of the report “Global Health 2050: The path to halving premature death by mid-century .” This was published in October 2024 as the third report from the Lancet Commission on Investing in Health.

The Lancet Commission on Investing in Health was established in 2012 and consists of leading economists and global health specialists from various countries. It has published two reports in The Lancet to date. The third and latest report concludes that despite various challenges such as rising geopolitical tensions, climate change and the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic, through intensive investments in healthcare it will be possible to drastically improve human welfare by the mid-21st century. This will include halving premature mortality before the age of 70 by 2050. Makimoto contributed to the author meetings of this report based on her expertise from COVID-19 studies and other events, and led consultation sessions with global health specialists who participated in the Prince Mahidol Award Conference (PMAC).
