JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute) published a book titled, “The Future of Work in Developing Countries ,” in March 2026, as a result of the Institute’s research project “Employment: The Impact of Global Changes in Industrial Structure and Demographics (Fifth Joint Research Project with IPD) .”
One of the most pressing issues in development today is the employment challenge in low- and middle-income countries. By combining rigorous theoretical analysis with grounded empirical research, this book demonstrates that employment creation is not an automatic byproduct of growth but a political and institutional project.
