Empirical Research in Africa

The objective of this research is to demonstrate effective approaches to development in Africa through the use of data.

We will disseminate the results of JICA projects by utilizing and analyzing existing data accumulated by JICA, and collect data and make policy recommendations on institutions and policies that are closely related to JICA projects by utilizing JICA's network in the field. Econometric methods will be used and priority will be given to data that can be analyzed empirically while the researched area is not limited. We will utilize data acquired through impact evaluation surveys conducted by JICA in the past, such as water supply in Zambia and roads in Morocco. Several publications on this research have been released.

Beside, new data are being collected on the effects of interventions in the field of education in regions outside of Africa, such as a survey on programming education in Iraq.
