A Gender Lecture by JICA Headquarters for Volunteers in PNG
2025.12.17
A gender-focused lecture was delivered by JICA Headquarters’ Gender Mainstreaming Team, with JICA Volunteers currently dispatched to PNG in attendance.
The session covered fundamental concepts such as women’s empowerment, as well as deeper insights into the difference between access to resources and control over resources, and how these factors influence decision-making power—perspectives that are often overlooked. Participants also explored the distinction between Equality and Equity, and the important understanding that not all women or men share the same circumstances, as factors beyond gender also play a role.
In addition, lively discussions addressed issues such as the expectation for men to make “heroic sacrifices” or take on physically demanding and hazardous work, and the perception that “men have no choice” in certain roles. These conversations highlighted the need to consider gender from multiple angles.
We remain committed to eliminating gender-based inequality, disparities, and discrimination, and will continue to actively promote gender equality in its activities.
