JICA Experts Receive the Ambassador’s Commendation 🎉

On January 28, Mr. ONO Masayoshi, former JICA Expert, and Mr. OHARA Katsuhiko, JICA Expert, received the FY2025 Ambassador’s Commendation from H.E. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Papua New Guinea, Mr. Mochizuki.
Both individuals began their careers in PNG as members of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) and have since made longstanding and significant contribution to PNG’s development through Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). Their extensive work in the country has also played an important role in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and PNG.
■Mr. ONO Masayoshi
Mr. Ono was first dispatched to PNG in 1984 as a JOCV member under JICA, where he served for 3 years. After working at the JOCV Secretariat in JICA, he returned to PNG as Senior Volunteer and served for an additional 2 years at the NCDC. He subsequently worked for 3 years at the JICA PNG Office and continued his career as a JICA Expert and JICA Staff in Overseas Office in several countries, including PNG. Since 2017, he had served as a JICA Development Advisor at PNG Department of Treasury (DOT) and the Department of National Planning and Monitoring (DNPM), contributing to government policy formulation and institutional development. He is currently working at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) PNG Resident Mission, continuing his dedicated support for the country’s development.
■Mr. OHARA Katsuhiko
Mr. Ohara was dispatched to PNG in 1991 as a JOCV, serving in the Engineering Division of Lae City in Morobe Province. He was engaged in a wide range of work including surveying, road mapping, construction supervision, and green space planning. After that, he worked on ODA Projects in Indonesia, Timore-Leste, South Sudan, Fiji and other countries. Since 2022, he has been assigned to the PNG Department of Treasury (DOT) and Department of National Planning and Monitoring (DNPM), where he serves as a JICA Development Advisor involved in policy formulation, project implementation oversight, and institutional capacity development.
This commendation recognizes the remarkable contributions both individuals have made over many years to the development of PNG and to the strengthening of Japan-PNG relations. We extend our deep respect for their dedicated efforts and wish them continues success in their future endeavors.
