Ogata Sadako
Ogata Sadako led JICA as its first president from October 2003 to March 2012, emphasized the importance of hands-on approaches, that is, of understanding the needs on site upon implementing projects, and devoted herself to practicing human security. What is more, the establishment of JICA Research Institute in October 2008 was led by Ogata during her time as the president of JICA, with an aim to conduct policy-oriented research on challenges that developing countries face and increase Japan’s intellectual presence in the global community.
Ogata passed away at the age of 92 on Oct. 22, 2019. In April 2020, JICA Research Institute changed its name to the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development, with a view to succeeding and further developing its founding purpose—formulated by Ogata—and increasing its intellectual contribution toward world peace and development.

Visitors can look around freely and no reservation is required. Along with JICA Global Plaza, a hub for citizen-participating international cooperation which is already open in the JICA Ichigaya Building, please feel free to stop by.
