Background and Contents

JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute) and the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET) will jointly organize an open webinar on the theme of economic transformation.

Sustained economic transformation requires that economies are built to resist shocks and to recover quickly, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past several months, ACET commissioned by JICA has been carrying out policy-oriented research aimed at resetting the policy agenda for Africa in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and other recent crises. This research will underpin discussions at the upcoming eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD8) where African and global leaders will come together to discuss priorities for Japan’s partnership with African countries, as well as trends and important policy prescriptions for Africa’s transformation.

The webinar slated for June 22, 2022, will help set the scene for discussions at TICAD8 and share some of the preliminary findings of the research. ACET and JICA will bring together government officials, entrepreneurs, civil society, academics, and international development actors to discuss and debate on what should rise to the top of the policy agenda for African countries in the months and years ahead, ensuring sustained economic transformation.
