2019.05.27

The JICA Research Institute (JICA-RI) and the Human Development Report Office (HDRO) co-hosted a consultation on the 2019 Human Development Report on April 25, 2019.

According to the Human Development Reports (HDRs) website, HDRs, produced by HDRO for United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are ensured editorial independence by the United Nations General Assembly. They have explored different themes through the human development approach with the Human Development Index (HDI).

Consultation on the 2019 Human Development Report was held at the JICA Ichigaya Building

The theme of the 2019 edition, to be released this year, is inequality in human development in the 21st century. In response to a presentation analyzing the diverse dimensions of inequality, attendants consisting of JICA staff members and Japanese intellectuals affiliated with universities and other research institutes made inputs on the quality of health care and education, the effects of climate change and other topics. In the discussion, participants affiliated with JICA-RI pointed out, based on its related research results, the issue of horizontal inequalities (HIs) and public perceptions of them, their effects on peace, and the importance of incorporating human security perspective into debate and discourses about inequality.

JICA-RI will continue participating in discussion toward better international cooperation by contributing to intellectual communities and trends in international cooperation.
