Visiting Fellow Purnendra Jain Awarded the Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon of the Order of the Rising Sun

Purnendra Jain, a visiting fellow at the JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute), was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun (Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon) by the Government of Japan at the 2020 Spring Conferment of Decoration on Foreign Nationals. This medal was conferred to Jain in recognition of his substantial contribution to promoting academic exchange and strengthening the relationship between Japan and Australia.

Jain has served in various posts, including as a professor at the University of Adelaide and as president of the Japanese Studies Association of Australia. He has also conducted extensive research on contemporary Japanese politics and foreign policy. His research at the JICA Ogata Research Institute covers Japan’s development assistance to India, culminating in two working papers: “Twin Peaks: Japan’s Economic Aid to India in the 1950s and 2010” (No. 139) and “Japan’s Foreign Aid and ‘Quality’ Infrastructure Projects: The Case of the Bullet Train in India” (No. 184).
