2021.05.11

The JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development reviews academic papers published in Japan and abroad as part of its core research activities. In March 2021, the Institute published Literature Review No.15, “Qualitative Research is not a Unified Paradigm: Implications for the Evaluation of Qualitative Research Studies,” written by Fushimi Katsutoshi.

The current paper reviews the literature on research paradigms in social science and, based on this review, presents implications regarding the evaluation of qualitative research studies. The paper also argues that researchers in international development studies should be self-reflexive in the research paradigm on which their own studies are based.
