Two years ago on October 22, 2019, Ogata Sadako, former president of JICA, passed away at the age of 92.

The JICA Ogata Sadako Research Institute for Peace and Development (JICA Ogata Research Institute) has released a video entitled “Human Security in Mindanao, the Philippines, Advocated by Former JICA President Ogata Sadako.”

Ogata, who served as the president of JICA for approximately ten years, promoted “human security,” the idea of creating a world where all people can live in dignity, free from fear and want. The JICA Ogata Research Institute continues to carry on this legacy of Ogata, and advocates for contributing to the realization of human security as one aspect of its basic policy.

This video explains the meaning of human security, which Ogata had espoused, as well as the sorts of cooperative efforts JICA has engaged in to make human security a reality, while introducing a case from Mindanao, the Philippines.
