On February 25, JICA-RI co-organized an authors’ workshop based on a joint study “Case Studies on Resilience in Southeast Asia,” with GDN (Global Development Network) and EADN (East Asia Development Network) in Manila, the Philippines. From JICA-RI, Senior Research Fellow Go Shimada participated in the workshop. He made opening remarks, chaired a session, and gave a briefing on the studies conducted at JICA-RI.

At the workshop, researchers from Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand reported on the progress in their respective researches as well as the content of their analysis. The research themes included: the resilience of households to natural disasters; the role of the community in the event of disasters; local knowledge, social capital; and resilience at the individual level. Active opinion exchanges took place between the researchers and the external commentators. The researchers (authors) will gather data, analyze them in each country, and compile the findings into papers.
