Inputs to the technical Workshop on Preparing for Implementation of the Paris Agreement

Roles of NAMAs in View of the Paris Agreement

Following the adoption of the Paris Agreement at COP21, Vietnam has initiated its internal process to prepare for its transition to post-2020 climate regime.

This accompanied various domestic processes including, inter alia, review of all the elements and actions required to respond to the Paris Agreement, and launch a process to generate political momentum to further advance national preparedness for climate actions and resource mobilization to enable successful transition.

In this regard, a Technical Workshop on Preparing for Implementation of the Paris Agreement was organized ion 14th March 2015 inviting domestic stakeholders and international partners to take stock of existing efforts put in place, as well as to discuss holistically national response to climate change encompassing both mitigation and adaptation to respond to the coverage of the Paris Agreement.

In Mitigation sub-session, the Project has provided a joint presentation (PDF/255KB) with GIZ, who also provide technical assistance to NAMA development in Vietnam among others, to revisit critical roles and opportunities NAMAs present to bridge pre-2020 and post-2020 mitigation endeavors in the country. In the sub-session, various line ministries (MOIT, MOT, MOC, MARD) and the World Bank also presented the existing efforts and constructive suggestions for Vietnam to undertake in the next couple of years.

Following the technical meeting, subsequent write-up session, Vietnam is expected to adopt a high level political statement defining actions to be taken.
