JICA India newly launches NGO Directory to promote post -COVID-19 revival
- Encouraging collaboration between the Japanese stakeholders and Indian NGOs -

New Delhi, September 05, 2020: On the occasion of International Day of Charity, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) launched a directory of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in India to accelerate post-COVID-19 socio-economic revival.

The objective of the portal is to mainly facilitate collaboration between Indian NGOs and Japanese stakeholders, which will provide a common platform for philanthropy related activities and act as a platform to support the marginalized communities, who have been severely impacted by COVID-19, socially as well as economically.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Katsuo Matsumoto, Chief Representative, JICA India said, "Traditionally, JICA's cooperation has been mainly to government agencies, while cooperation with other development players such as local NGOs and social enterprises has been limited. However, the COVID-19 pandemic provides a good occasion to change this. Opportunities also exist to facilitate matchmaking between NGOs / social enterprises and Japanese companies in terms of funding, co-working and technical transfer. There are definitely a number of ways in which JICA can help connecting various development organizations in an effective way. With expertise in various domains, NGOs act as a catalyst for greater impact to millions of lives at the community level and brings people from local to national level to voluntarily work with compassion and kindness. Through this directory, JICA India intends to endorse partnership between Japan and India, as well as Japan's role in reviving India's economic activities. It is imperative that the world comes together as one big family to speed up the COVID-19 recovery phase, and this is one-way JICA India aims to do it."

JICA India organized a survey to identity eminent Indian NGOs with Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) certification as one of its mandatory requirements to create the NGO directory. NGOs focusing on diverse sectors such as Health, Women Empowerment, Education, Water Sanitation & Hygiene, Environment, Disaster Prevention, Rural Development, Livelihood, Agriculture, Forestry, etc., were included in the survey.

Through this directory, JICA India also intends to understand the vital role played by NGOs in the Indian society. The platform will also facilitate knowledge sharing with Japanese stakeholders interested in social development activities.
