Joint Seminar on Port Development Plan and Facility

On 29th January 2020, Joint seminar on Port Development and Facility through Port Technical Exchange Program between Ports in Cambodia and Timor-Leste takes place at meeting room of MTC, which is conducted by Phnom Penh Autonomous Port(PPAP), Sihanoukville Autonomous Port(PAS), APORTIL and JICA.

This seminar is a final of series of activities started from July 2017 and aiming to share about output of the activities, mainly including future development plan, maintenance of port facility and safety in the port in Timor-Leste with much lesson learnt from Ports in Cambodia as well as knowledge and experience of Japan.

In this connection, both Cambodia and Timor-Leste experts express their gratitude to the Japan Government and JICA which have supported both countries with the financial and technical for improving knowledge to the port officers by sharing and learning through joining this Seminar.

Opening remark is presented by H.E. Minister for Transport and Communications, Mr. Jose Agustinho da Silva L. Ed. M.M, and H.E. Charged d' Affaires ad interim of Japan to Timor-Leste, Mr. Shingo HIGASHIMOTO.

Honor lecture is presented by H.E Technical Advisor Nippo Corporation Mr. Hirotaka Sato, whose title is For the Port Development of Timor-Leste -From the Viewpoint of Japan's Experience-. He shows prosperous port expected in Timor-Leste could be brought by ferry network, new container port and utilizing Dili Port for cruise.

Finally Closing address is presented by H.E. President of APORTIL, Mr. Flavio Cardoso Neves.

PMU of Tibar Bay Port Project, Experts from Phnom Penh Autonomous Port, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port, JICA, staff from APORTIL, Marin Construction Company Fudotetora Corporation and Manufacturer of Ceramic Duct Sugie Seito Co.,LDT. and Faculty of Engineering, Science and Technology, UNTL make presentation on Port Development Plan, Facility Maintenance and Safety in the ports.

Japanese Government through JICA is continuously supporting to port sector before the independent of Timor-Leste such as urgent rehabilitation of port facilities, developing a Port of Oecusse and Ferry Terminal in Dili to accommodate increasing number of vessels and passenger safely in Timor-Leste. Also, JICA has been dispatching experts to APORTIL from 2012 for port development plan, facility, management and security.
