JICA President TANAKA Akihiko and former President KITAOKA Shinichi meet with Philippines Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez

JICA President TANAKA Akihiko and Special Advisor to the President (former President) KITAOKA Shinichi met with the Republic of the Philippines Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez at JICA Headquarters on April 25.
Opening the meeting, Finance Secretary Dominguez conveyed his gratitude to former president Kitaoka for his long contribution to the international community as JICA president and for JICA's past cooperation with the Philippines. He then expressed to President Tanaka his hope for continued cooperation. He also communicated his gratitude for JICA's efforts towards comprehensive assistance, including support for peace and development in Mindanao, as well as JICA’s economic and technical cooperation.
In response, former president Kitaoka welcomed the secretary’s visit, noting the deepening relationship of trust between the Philippines and Japan. He also paid tribute to the finance secretary’s leadership and efforts in promoting economic policies and measures centered on infrastructure development projects in the six and a half years he had been in office.

President Tanaka spoke of JICA's cooperation with the Philippines that are centered on "Quality infrastructure," support for peace and development in Mindanao, and cooperation in measures against COVID-19 infection. He also expressed his desire to continue close collaboration with the new Philippine government after the presidential election, including cooperation in the field of disaster risk reduction based on the importance of climate change countermeasures. President Tanaka also emphasized the importance of cooperation in maritime safety and security in the Philippines.
After the meeting, the JICA President and the Philippine Finance Secretary signed a Japanese ODA Loan agreement for the provision of up to 30 billion yen for "COVID-19 Crisis Response Emergency Support Loan Phase 2."
JICA will continue to contribute to the sustainable development of the Philippines through socio-economic development including that of infrastructure, human resource development, and technical cooperation.
