Concept

Ms. Susanna Moorehead, Chair of the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), will visit Japan to attend the upcoming TICAD7 to be held in Yokohama in late August. Taking the opportunity afforded by this visit the JICA Research Institute will host a public seminar and invite her as keynote speaker.

During the past sixty years the DAC has served as a unique forum for the development community, sharing views and exchanging lessons among members and with partner countries. Recently, the development community has been endeavoring to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while at the same time significant changes are taking place in the global architecture for development cooperation.

This seminar will highlight the role of DAC and the expectations placed on Japan’s involvement in the changing global development cooperation architecture through the DAC Chair’s keynote speech and the subsequent discussion session. The seminar will discuss selected critical topics such as the approaches to mobilizing and catalyzing private sector finance for development, how to engage emerging donors, and the need for enhanced efforts toward the achievement of the SDGs. This may also be a good opportunity to discuss the future of African development, taking account of TICAD7.

Anyone interested in development cooperation (academics, students, media, development practitioners, and so on) is welcome to the seminar.
