【Close】JICA/UNDP Seminar: Compounded Crises and Human Security - Introducing JICA Ogata Research Institute Report "Human Security Today"

event |

Today, our world is facing more complex and diverse threats than ever before. While existing challenges including armed conflicts and natural disasters are becoming more acute and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic is still casting a shadow on our society and economy, the energy and food crises triggered by the Ukraine crisis have been added. Longstanding challenges, such as climate change, are also accumulating. In these times of compound crises, the importance of "human security" is increasing to protect people's lives, livelihoods, and dignity by connecting people and countries through trust and cooperation among diverse actors with a broad perspective.

In response to such situation, JICA Ogata Research Institute published the first issue of its flagship report Human Security Today last March, aiming to analyze, research, and disseminate the significance of human security in light of the changing times from various perspectives. Commemorating the launch of the English version of the report, the seminar will invite international experts to deepen the discussion on the concept and practice of human security.

How can the international community work together to build a resilient society when compound risks threaten our lives, livelihoods, and dignity? Why is the concept of "human security," born 30 years ago, attracting renewed attention in today's international society? Please join to discuss these themes together.
