JICA Ogata Research Institute Researchers Present their Study on the Quantitative Evaluation of Climate Change Adaptation Benefits of Urban Flood Management at a DMDU Society Webinar

2025.07.03

On May 28, 2025, Ichiro Sato , Executive Senior Research Fellow at the JICA Ogata Research Institute, and Daiju Narita , Visiting Fellow at the JICA Ogata Research Institute (Professor at the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Arts and Sciences), presented their research project, “Study on Quantitative Evaluation of Climate Change Adaptation Benefits of Urban Flood Management ” at a webinar hosted by the Society for Decision Making Under Deep Uncertainty (DMDU) Asia. The DMDU provides decision-makers with tools to make informed choices when faced with unpredictable and evolving situations, where the future is uncertain, and where traditional decision-making methods may fall short.

The study applies Robust Decision Making (RDM), a DMDU method, to analyze the effectiveness of urban flood mitigation measures as a climate change adaptation measure. During the webinar, the presenters highlighted a case study from Sri Lanka that demonstrated the usefulness of this method when implementing such an analysis.

A video recording of this webinar can be watched on the link below. The presentation on the research project begins 32 minutes after the start of the recording.
