Senegal’s Policy Response to Cancer Epidemics
Cancer incidence is rising across Africa, and Senegal is no exception. This study examines Senegal’s policy response to the growing cancer burden over the past decade. Policy documents and statistical data were analyzed using the WHO health systems framework.
The findings show that since its first national survey of non-communicable disease risk factors in 2015, the Senegalese government has made notable progress in cancer prevention and care. At the same time, the study highlights the need for sustained institutional strengthening and financial commitment to reduce the human and economic costs of late diagnosis, particularly outside the capital and among people working in the informal sector.
