Research Project (Ongoing)
Companies grow not only through their own efforts, but also through their relationships with customers, suppliers, and other partner companies. As companies become increasingly connected through global supply chains, these business relationships can help them gain new knowledge, improve management practices, and access new market opportunities. At the same time, growing geopolitical uncertainties have highlighted the importance of building resilient supply chains through stronger and more diverse business networks.
JICA has supported business linkages between companies in developing countries and Japanese companies as part of its private sector development programs (See Private Sector Development ). These initiatives aim to create new business opportunities and strengthen the capabilities of local companies. However, there is still limited evidence on how effective such support has been in generating business partnerships and improving its performance.
This research project examines the results of business linkage promotion programs implemented by JICA and its partner organizations. It explores how these programs contribute to the creation of business relationships and whether participation leads to better business outcomes, such as higher sales, improved productivity, and stronger management capabilities. By generating the evidence, the project aims to provide practical lessons for future private sector development and industrial promotion programs.
